So this week has seemed like the longest week ever! Next week, we have our last homestudy meeting and leave to go visit our families and friends! YEAH! So today when I got off of work, I had to find just the right driving song for the way home. Needed a YEAH it's friday-3 days of work next week and then I'm off work for 12 days and get to see family and friends-type of song. So I was looking through a few cd's and then I found it. YESSSSS..the perfect song...it's an oldie but perfect song for what I needed.

Delayed
Our last homestudy meeting/home inspection that was scheduled for tomorrow was cancelled as our case manager wasn't available. UGH! So...the last meeting is next Monday. I completed the First Aid/CPR class on Saturday. It was really really long!!!! The lady that was sitting next to me was doing the class for adoption requirements as well. Her and her husband were very nice.
Not much going on here..just getting ready to go on vacation. Lots to do at work this week as well as start packing and planning what we're doing while we're in Indiana. YEAH! I still need to post about what I learned when I was having my blood drawn from the blood work lady. Nothing major but something kind of interesting. I'll have to post about it tomorrow night.

A few unexpected things over the past few days
Well, this 3 day weekend didn't go at all like we thought it would but sometimes you can't control how life works. Friday the 13th was a really good day for us actually. At work we had an opportunity that I'm very thankful that our District Attorney decided to make available to us. She set it up for employees to be medically screened for several medical issues by a prominent physician that works directly with many sports teams, including NFL teams. These tests screen risks for heart attacks, heart disease and stroke. These tests are cutting edge, typically not paid by most insurance carriers. These tests, which would normally run from $800 to $2,000...it cost us each $25. The preventative testing included:
· a hot plaque blood test (cutting edge blood test that normally costs $800 to $1,000 for this test alone and insurance doesn't cover the costs of this test)
· a cholesterol particles test
· a stickiness of particles-to-arteries test
· an ultrasound of the heart (which predicts early heart failure risk)
He also measured the impact of mental stress on the heart, cardiovascular triggers, and ultrasound of carotid arteries.
When this was first brought up, I didn't sign up for it but after talking to some friends decided that it's better to know issues now rather than later. I talked to Andy and he decided to do the testing as well. It was pretty painless..well except for the blooddraw and even that wasn't that bad. We will get our results back in March so hopefully there won't be any major issues. The amazing part is that one employee find out she had a tumor in her neck due to the testing and there's been some others who have found out some issues that they wouldn't have found out about just by going to their normal doctor.
One part of the test is to see how your blood pressure reacts to stress. As they were monitoring your heart they asked you to start at 700 and go backwards in increments of 7. Ok, I love math..love it. I went BLANK!! 700- 7 is uh..uh...uh...oh my gosh I'm nervous..uh...oh..693..um...let's see.. yep, went very well! The second time was starting at 300 and going backwards in increments of 7...I did much better this time. My blood pressure only went up 4 notches..woo hoo! Most went up at least 20 or more. Andy's actually went down!!! I also found out some other info that wasn't heart related but will share that either later tonight or tomorrow.
Ok, moving on...Saturday...plan was to do early lunch and a movie. I was feeling super tired and when Andy woke up, we decided just to do an early dinner at Olive Garden. YUMMY! Food was great and then we went grocery shopping....exciting Valentine's Day, huh? We got home and I was in bed by 8...I knew then something was up. Well, midnight rolls around..I wake up, run to the bathroom, and started throwing up...UGH!!! This went on every hour for the rest of the night!!! I was miserable...throw up, sleep for an hour, throw up, sleep for an hour..repeat. UGH! Sunday morning, I was dehydrated, achy, cold, whiny, etc. I even called my mom at 5:15 our time(6:15 a.m. her time) as I was so thirsty and was afraid to drink anything. I know, I should *know* the answer to this but at that point...Mom knows best. All day Sunday, I camped out on the couch and Andy took care of me. He is a saint! The funny part is on Sat. night I decided to buy sugar free jello and popsicles for snacks. Thank goodness as they were great on Sunday!!!
The worst part of Sunday was having to cancel dinner with Mike, and my cousin, Julie. Julie was in town and they were going to come to our house for dinnner. I was so bummed!!! We also had to call and cancel our homestudy/home inspection for Monday morning. UGH UGH! It's now been re-scheduled for next Monday. So our fun weekend..turned into a very blah weekend!

6 years ago tonight
Six years ago tonight was our first date! We went to dinner and then Andy brought me home as Mike(good friend of mine) and I were leaving early the next morning to drive to Indiana. I remember being really nervous and hoping that it would go really well. Our dinner ended up taking about 3 hours as we just talked and talked and talked. Andy drove me home, walked me to the door, and wished me a safe trip back to Indiana. He was leaving for Vegas two days later and said he'd call me when he got back so we could go out again. I was really hoping he'd call when he got back but a small part of me tried to convince myself that if he didn't, it was no big deal. I hadn't had much luck with dating since I had moved to Colorado so I was preparing myself that he wouldn't call. Don't get me wrong...I really really really wanted to go out on another date with Andy.
The next day Mike and I took off bright and early for the 17 hour drive back to Indiana. The first 4 hours was me telling Mike all about the date and analyzing everything. Poor Mike..he probably wanted to drop me off in the middle of Kansas. Mike was great though and let me go on and on and on. A week later on the way back to Colorado from Indiana, Mike had to listen to me say over and over..if he doesn't call, his loss...I really want him to call but if not no big deal...Why do guys say they call and then don't...He'll call....I just know he's not going to call...once again I'm sure Mike was ready to drop me off in the middle of Kansas.
The day after we got back from Indiana....Andy called and we planned our 2nd date a few days later. YEAH!!! Mike was right..."Sara, there are good guys who do call when they say they are going too. Stop analyzing and just go with it."

Quick update
We had our 2nd mtg. today. She met with each of us individually and then met with us together. I think it went really well. She said our families are boring(in a joking way) as we don't have any criminals, drug or alcohol abuse going on with our families. We have our last meeting as well as home inspection next Monday! YEAH! She said after that, she'd right up the homestudy and get it to us to review. we're almost done! YEAH!!!!!
Homestudy meeting #2 is this morning
We will be having the 2nd of 3 meetings this morning. YEAH!!! She will meet with each of us individually today. We're not as nervous this time, hopefully that's a good thing. =) We found on Friday that some of the classes that we took online aren't going to count towards our intial certification. Now we have to scramble to find 3 more classes to take. I think I've found 3 that will work and e-mailed the director about the classes. If they all are ok, we'll be very busy the next 3 weeks with classes! We really want to get everything done by the end of the month or at the very latest right before we go on vacation. Ok, time to do last minute spot check.

Homestudy meeting #1=DONE
We had our first meeting today for our homestudy. We worked this past weekend on making sure the house was clean and organized. Kiddo's room is all set up and we even kid proofed the house. We decided to wait on the door knob things as they were also adult proof. We met with the worker for about an hour and a half today. We discussed why we want to do foster to adopt, why their agency, and about each of our own upbringing/family. Our worker made us feel really comfortable and we just blabbed away. I think it helped that she is young as well as we were able to relate in the types of jobs that we all of had. I was really worried we'd get someone we didn't "click" with and the homestudy wouldn't go well. We have our next meeting with her next Monday! YEAH! We have to meet with her 3 times before she writes up the homestudy. Once she does the homestudy, she will give us a copy to proof to make sure she has all the info correct.
I think I knew that we were going to be fine with her, when she mentioned that she is "fostering" a turtle for one of the girls that they had to place in a group home and she has had her own pet turtle for 3 years. I told her that she'd get a long really well with my sister who LOVES turtles and had to find a "foster parent" for her two turtles when she moved to St. Maarten. Who would have thought that discussing turtles would be an ice breaker?!?!
The past week and a half, Andy's mom and her husband, Bob, have been in Colorado. We met them for lunch last Sunday and then for dinner this past Saturday night. It was so great to see both of them as well as Andy's brother, Matt. Andy met them up in Keystone on Tuesday to go skiing..his first time this year. We are going to meet up with them when we're back in March. We are so excited for our vacation back to Indiana in March!!! We're going to spend lots of time with my parents as well as go to a hockey game in St. Louis with some friends. YEAH!!!
One of the ladies at work today said "Just think Sara if this keeps moving along you could possibly have a child in another month or two." Two thoughts went through my head...YEAH!!! We'll have a child! AND OMG...we'll have a child soon...eeks! Don't get me wrong we're very excited but also kind of nervous as we've waited along time for this and well, we'll be first time parents. I think(hope) this is a normal feeling. I know that I can't wait to see Andy be a Dad! I know he'll be amazing and has a huge heart that is filled with love to share with a child.
